On August 24, Pride Of Detroit's roster bubble watch (Jeremy Reisman) noted Altmyer making a late move toward a roster spot, and by August 29 Erik Schlitt reported Lions fans viewed Altmyer as the favorite for the backup quarterback job entering the preseason finale. That momentum did not last: Pride Of Detroit (again Reisman) reported on August 30 that Detroit waived Altmyer in deciding its backup quarterback situation, and Yahoo Sports NFL confirmed the waiver on August 31. He is now a free agent unless claimed, and no landing spot has been reported.
